About “Mike” The Alaskan RV Butler
Sharing My Passion and Experience in Alaska
People ask me all the time, how and why did you start the Alaskan RV Butler Service. It all started when I was 16 when my friend Rick and I dreamed of owning a lodge in Alaska. For years, we just wanted to take a trip and go but couldn’t afford it. Finally, in the summer of 1989 we booked our first trip to Afognak Island, AK. Unfortuneately our dreams were crushed with the Valdez oil spill a few months before our trip.
I went to British Columbia for 5 years and fished the beautiful fjords on a floating lodge called North Pacific Springs. Finally, in 2004, I went with Rick and his 2 buddies that knew where to go fishing. We rented an RV and they did all the driving. I quickly found out that the technique for fishing the rivers was completely different and I didn’t have the skill or equipment to properly fish. In addition, I was stuck going where they wanted to go.
So, I hiked and did other things on that trip, but, I vowed to come back every year, learn all I can about fishing, adventure tours, kayaking, hiking, biking and tours. I planned everything for my friends and family based on what they were interested in. For example, my son does not like to fish, so we rented ATV’s outside of Denali; we camped out near Knik Glacier, kayaked & hiked out of Homer and did white-water rafting near Denali. My wife likes some fishing but enjoys shopping, so I took her to all the specialty shops in Anchorage, Seward and Homer. We also took guided hikes in Denali and picked fresh berries all day. My favorite trip of all time was going to the world famous Brooks Falls for Bear Viewing. Being hikers, we discovered the most unique landscape ever at The Valley of the 10,000 Smokes. Meanwhile, I did all the cooking, arranged all the side tours and made a ton of Alaskan friends. I’ve used the same guide, Wes Oitenger for 9 years. I’ve fished the Big 6 with Wes. I’ve stayed at Miller’s Landing every year, I’ve horseback riden with The Alaska Horseman several times, I’ve flown out with Tallon Air many times for a salmon fishing/bear viewing combination. Regardless of using my regulars, each year, I’d try new things, new vendors. Now, my trusted vendors are your great experience.
Ultimately, after 23 years of major stress in the insurance business, I decided take my passion for sharing Alaska with friends and family to sharing it with you. I have equal passion for cooking great meals and providing over the top MEMORABLE SERVICE! The summer of 2015, I was honored to work on a Travel Channel Episode titled… Alaska to Nicaragua. I chauffeured an RV and prepared meals for Samantha Brown, Chris Gundry, the production team and winners of the show. I am proud that Samantha said to me, “Mike, you took the show to a new level.”
Another thing I am good at is saving money. So, after years of loyal business to my vendors, I told them that I wanted to help my clients afford Alaska and save them time by custom planning their trip and doing all the work so they can enjoy more moments of fun and adventure. As a result, they gave me 5 to 55% on things like: rentals, fishing, outdoor equipment, hiking boats, kayaking, camping fees and tours of all kinds etc. I put in a fair daily rate for me and pass all the savings on to you. On a typical day, I will save a party of four $200 to $400 per depending on your activities. Now you get the best of all worlds; you get to travel with someone who knows where to go and what to do for nearly the same price as going on your own.
To further add value, I keep hip boots, fishing polls, back packs, hiking polls, bear spray, mosquito spray, camp chairs, extra ice chest, Keurig Coffee Machine, DVD movies, books, magazines, personal care items like tooth paste and shampoo. I also keep in storage an entire outdoor cooking system so you can relax in an uncrowded RV while I prepare your meal outside. TRAVEL LIGHT so you can take home more gifts and fish is my motto. I even do your laundry for you!
Lastly, it is my experience when you travel via RV on your own, you bring a lot of things from home AND you spend your first day shopping for groceries or things you forgot. I shop for you and pick you up at the airport in a fully stocked ready to go RV. YOUR VACATION BEGINS THE MOMENT I PICK YOU UP AT THE AIRPORT CURBSIDE.
I have a passion for Alaska, I love to Cook, I am committed to serve people and I am internally driven to share the beauty, excitement, adventure and uniqueness of Alaska. I would love to experience all these with you! That’s why I started the Alaskan RV Butler Service

On very rare occasions do I take the time to write about a trip but the trip you arranged is one I cannot write enough about. From the onset, the reservation booking, your responses to numerous questions were exceptional. The trip itself was one of the best I’ve ever been on and my three friends who joined me, cannot stop talking about it. From your guidance to your food, for your service to both our needs and your recommendations we can’t wait to do it again. The fishing, the pack out on horses was fantastic, even for beginner
riders such as myself. Your food is in a category by itself, and any time you want to open a restaurant I will be one of your investors. If value is perception, than the reality of what we paid for and received was the best value added trip we ever could imagined. Thank you again for your friendship and making our Alaska trip a lifetime memory.
